Well we now know the answer to this.

Kinect pwned, gap grew.

But the gap decreased even with Kinect... check the numbers.

VGC GAP (31th Dec 2009): 4.9m
VGC GAP (31th Dec 2010): 4.0m

Yea, but Kinect has only been around for 2 months.

VGC GAP (Oct 30th 2010): 3.2 million
VGC GAP (Jan 1st 2011): 4.0 million

So PS3 never outshipped 360, and probably never will, at least not anytime soon.
