Well the Blue one does stand out, so if you want something that is sober it's not the correct choice, but if you don't care about that, then the blue one has a lot more personality than the black one.
For one the different layers of the DS have different shades and material, with the top part being in a glossy shiny material that has a very nice effect with light colors... it's nice in black too, but you evidently don't see the effect as much. The analogy to a jewel I made in the france post was partly due to that, the blue one plays with colors and the black one just absorbs them. Imagine an emerald and an onyx, both a nice cristals... but one doesn't play with colors. It clearly isn't to that extent, but I'm trying to paint you a picture of what I liked in the blue one.
I don't believe that the pictures do justice to either of the consoles. The black one is very nice too and you won't be disapointed if you get that one... it'll look more DS than the other though.

Now if you look at the blue one, you see that the colors are in shades too... and I believe the assortmet of blue is much more pelasant than the assortment of black/grey:
In the end, it's really a question of taste. I believe that the colored ones will be nicer and I think the red one that's been on pictures looks geat too. The black one is just more bland to me.
