Wi-Fi takes so much energy so I can't even imagine how the battery time is when it's on.

Nominally Nintendo recommends that you play plugged in at all times if you're on WiFi, or so i remember from the DS Phat instructional booklet

My DS phat would just last for 2 or 3 hours playing Mario Kart local multiplayer.

It drains a lot of battery. But even so, 4 hours average battery life is not enough.

 

I like to charge my DS and take it with me on camping weekends or something like that. A 3DS can't do that with just 4 hours of life.
