The US is a bit of a super power that likes to throw its weight around a bit in foreign territories. Knowing who has their finger on the button in the White House actually kind of concerns quite a few Billion people around the world.
On the other hand, most view the US Presidency in the same way that many view the Monarchy in England...so maybe it doesn't matter.
