New RPG IPs are often a hard sell, even in Japan. Dragon Quest took three games to become the phenomenon that it is.


FF also hard a time too.


Well I don't know the launch sales off FF1, but considering it saved SE from bankruptcy, I would call that an exception of being a hard sell.



A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
