I usually just warn. The one thing that I don't tolerate though is bigotry of any kind. If you insult other religions, races, sexes, sexualities, then I will ban you. It will probably be a short ban on first offense but after that I have zero tolerance for that crap. If you insult other users I'll usually warn you (by personal message) or on a second offense give a short ban and then make the bans progressively longer if you keep it up until eventually I would permaban you.
I do permaban any accounts made for the sole purpose of trolling the site and posting inappropriate content without ever contributing. Oh, and I also warn for trolling. Posting for example "Wii/PS3/360 sucks." in a topic and nothing else then moving on to the next topic. If you do this repeatedly despite warnings then I'll give you a short ban, and if trolling is all you do on the site then I'll probably permaban you.
