You have to refrain from vigilante justice, it will only lead to more harm than good.I can see a justice system that allows for vigilantism only leading to tit-for-tat vigilantism and people effectively taking the law into their own hands and deciding themselves what is right and wrong, which will just make the justice system unfair.

As for rehabilitation vs just locking someone away, I agree some people should be locked away forever for some crimes, but in most cases rehabilitation works well. The Victorians hit on the idea that rehabilitation is an effective way to lower re-offending rates, and they were right.

In the case that I mentioned in my first post, I doubt you can say that "rehabilitation" worked. One of them is back in prison, after getting into several physical fights and having child pornography on his PC. The other one was descirbed by psychologists as being much more cold and calculated, so he's probably commited terrible acts, but managed to cover his tracks.

And people who commit terrible acts should be punished for what they do. 8 years in a juvenile institution, living in better conditions than most kids, and then staring a new life, where the police protect them, and they can do all the nasty stuff they want to... THAT'S NOT PUNISHMENT!

Rehabilitaion is a good ideea in lots of cases, but not when it comes to murderers. Especially murderers who kidnapped, tortured, mutilated, and killed a 2 year old boy (and I don't care if they themselves were children). They don't deserve rehabilitation, all they deserve is punishment. And the law should be preocupied protecting it's citizens, not trying to "rehabilitate" cold blooded murderers at the expense of the safety of law abiding citizens. They aren't even sprry for what they did.

At this point the only fair thing to do would be to shoot those bastards, and I can only hope someone gets the opportunity and does it. Only then will things be as they should be.
