Against all expectations, Iraq was won in about 6 weeks. The issue is that it all happened so fast, they weren't prepared for the country's collapse. |
You do realise that Powell and co claimed they would control all of Iraq and downtown Baghdad in five days in the original brief? And that it actually took around 13 months? There were pockets of resistance in Baghdad for well over a year after the invasion and I still can't see how anyone (outside of someone watching only Fox News all day) can think that this war is "won" in any kind of way. There is no winning in Iraq and Afghanistan, just like there was no winning in Vietnam.
Also, Chairman-Mao; taking out China one on-one "easily" would not happen. There is still only the slightest semblance of control in Afghanistan and Iraq, with the aid of NATO mind you and there is nothing resembling peace or victory at this point.
The US is the biggest military superpower today, no doubt, but people seem to have a very strange view on just how powerful it is. No one today could best China "easily" and no one could conquer and control Afghanistan and Iraq. Look and Lebanon and Haiti and Somalia, that is the future of Iraq and Afghanistan.
