Hopefully Ueda shares your distaste of the idea and they try to work out some idea like Heavy Rain where you get the trophy at the end of the chapter, maybe they could give you the trophies as you sat down at a save point. I really liked that Quantic Dream thought to keep the notifications from distracting the player during emotional moments. The best solution would obviously be to be able to turn notifications off on the hardware side but I haven't found any option to do that for the PS3. OT: I do have to say to those that agree with Nintendo on this one, that reasoning of unlockables being better only works if they are mutually exclusive, but since you can quite obviously have both and many games prove it (most recent examples I've played were NBA Jamand LBP2) it's just a poor excuse for not having them. If they don't think most of their userbase want it that's fine, but the reasoning in the OP is just crap. |
Heavy Rain's solution worked well, and I'm really hoping Ueda insists on something similar not just with Last Guardian but with the HD Ico/SOTC. Those games simply don't benefit in any way I can see from Trophies, but I'll settle for having disruption minimized.
I know the basic concept on consoles is to simplify but I think they could stretch the interface - now that both PS3/360 have lots of options for extended services - to have a simple notify/supress setting. That way you could supress the notification and if you want check afterwards any Trpohies, etc. you got.
I don't mind 'em in principle and can see the appeal, particularly for online, sports, etc. where the whole boast element makes sense. But really, for a lot of SP games they don't fit and are only applied as a log of what you've done - yup, I've finished Chapter 2 of FFXIII and yup, there's a little Trophy to say I really did finish Chapter 2 or to supposedly extend gameplay - for example when you've finished AC:Brotherhood you can pass the time jumping from horses to beams and back again!
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
