They'd sell out the first year regardless of whether they priced it at $250 or $300. I don't see a problem with it being a higher price however it is Iwata's decision and Pachter was only offering an opinion. Offering an opinion isn't a crime when we have over 50 opinions in this thread already on Pachters opinion.
