Nintendo and Apple are not direct competitors.
People who wants to play will buy a true console (the 3DS). For the moment it's indirect competition. And it will conitnue like that until Apple release a console, if it ever happens. NIntendo new features and other media openings are there to expand the appeal of the 3DS, but it's still almost exclusively a console.
