North America:  Mar. 27th, $250
Europe:             Mar. 25th, To be decided by retailers
(Currently £229.99 and €249 are popping up a lot on retailers sites, including Amazon.com/uk and Amazon.fr. However there are reports of other retailers with different pricing.)

3DS Box Contents:

  • Nintendo 3DS System
  • Charging Cradle
  • AC Adapter
  • 10cm Touch Pen
  • 2GB SD Card
  • Six Augmented Reality Cards
  • instruction Booklets

Notable 3DS Facts:

  • Launch colors are Cosmo Black and Aqua Blue.
  • 3D Depth Slider lets you adjust intensity of 3D Effects, or turn them off completely.
  • 3DS uses Mii's, which can be transfered from your Wii, or made using Mii Maker.
  • The Nintendo eShop will use a cash-based system, presumably instead of the point system.
  • 3DS uses a a single universal friend code tied to the actual system for online play features.
  • Once friends trade hardware codes, at any time you can check you friends list to see which of their friends are online and what they are playing.
  • A service that will be provided after the hardware's launch will allow Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL owners to transfer games downloaded from the Nintendo DSi Shop onto their new Nintendo 3DS systems. This service can also be used to transfer purchases from one 3DS to another. Some software may be non-transferable, and there is limit to how many times you make a transfer.
  • Nintendo reports 3DS's battery life as 3-5 hours for 3DS games, 8 hours for DS games. Turning off the 3D effect may give you up to 8 hours battery life. Turning off the system's wireless via a switch, lowering its brightness settings or even running it in a dimmer power-save mode will all help increase battery life.
  • The 3DS will be region locked in a matter similar to the DSi.

Notable 3DS Features:

  • 3D screen, enabling 3D view without the need for special glasses and the ability to adjust or turn off 3D effect with the 3D Depth Slider.
  • Stereo cameras that enable users to take 3D photos that can be viewed instantly on the 3D screen. (Note: Iwata has stated 3D Video recording may be possible with future updates.)
  • With augmented-reality cards (AR Cards) the 3DS's two outer cameras can read the cards and superimpose images and animations onto a scene.
  • New input interfaces including the Circle Pad, motion sensor, gyro sensor
  • SpotPass, a feature that lets Nintendo 3DS detect wireless hotspots or wireless LAN access points and obtain information, game data, free software, videos and so on for players even when the system is in sleep mode.
  • StreetPass, a feature that lets Nintendo 3DS exchange data automatically with other Nintendo 3DS systems within range, even in sleep mode once this feature is activated by the user. Data for multiple games can be exchanged simultaneously.
  • Convenient features that users can access without stopping game play such as the HOME menu, Internet Brower, Notifications, etc.
  • Built-in software such as the Nintendo 3DS Camera, Nintendo 3DS Sound, Mii Maker, StreetPass, Mii Plaza, AR Games, Activity Log, Face Raiders, etc.
  • Nintendo eShop where users can view trailers, software rankings and purchase software including DSI ware and Gameboy/Gameboy Color Virtual console games.
  • In Sleep Mode the 3DS can act as a pedometer, letting users earn Play Coins for the steps they can trade in for additional content in compatible games and applications.
  • Nintendo 3DS Sound allows users to enjoy sound-manipulation tools or listen to their MP3 or AAC music files.
  • An upgraded Internet browser will be available via a system update.
  • Backwards compatiable with DS and DSi games.
