Actually, 3DS paints a somewhat different picture... 3rd parties are going all in upfront, which should build the relevant markets they always complain about on Nintendo platforms. It's mainly just Japan though (who tend to be exclusive oriented for the most part), but Iwata's made specific mention of this change in philosophy, and you can bet they'll extend that thinking to Wii 2 (just as Wii mirrored the DS lead in).  The west however will simply include any viable platform so long as it supports their multiplatform engine/tool chains, so Wii 2's western support likely rests on how it matches up spec wise to 360/PS3/PSP2.

Also, GameCube kinda sucked.  Sorry.

I remember reading this thread.  Why in the world did it get bumped?  I don't remember what is in the rest of the thread, but whenever I see the bold point I feel the need to emphasize it.

You can't just ignore a part of the market, decide to throw it some scraps, and then be surprised when you discover that that segment of the market has atrophied.  A market must be nurtured.

On top of that, most third parties have a bad reputation when it comes to Nintendo's customers.  This is why Nintendo so easily dominates their platforms.  The competition is inferior all too often, and the consumer knows it.  It is easier to stick with something you know is good.  It's why sequels are so popular.
