Why will sony pay valve for something that valve only needed some time to do? Valve was never against sony or with MS. Because of the "inferior" PSN, valve could manage all this, otherwise the PS3 version would be just as good as the 360 version. What did Sony pay them for, developing the game? Valve got some new employees last year and I am guessing its because of them they managed to make Source engine 2 compatible on the PS3, and that's all valve needed. MS on the other hand has no such advantages on their side. Most of the developers don't exactly love working with MS, with bungie gone; whereas many have actually openly stated that they like to work with Sony, David jaffe, sucker punch and insomniac(they don't belong to Sony) being some examples. Which is why people say that MS paid dollars. Sony pays them too, for eg. they 100% paid for the AC brotherhood dlc and the mafia 2 dlc back last year. Also for the batman arkham asylum. They might have had some kind of agreement with EA for Mass effect 2. Since MS doesn't really do anything other than timed exclusivity (which sometimes does happen because of PS3's complex-ness in programming, developers take more time to make a port), people usually think MS paid them to make timed exclusivity. Announcing 1 month exclusivity for call of duty doesn't help, and the new homefront dlc is also, another example. |
Yes, everyone does pay, but they don't normally give cash, it normally ends up as paying for advertising and stuff like that, as when AC games are released, they always have PS3 branded advertising, and vice versa for CoD. I can bet we will be seeing the PS3 and Steam logos at the end of Portal 2 adverts
