French site Le Monde has reported the overall sales numbers for consoles in France, while also revealing some outstanding PS3 game sales figures for all of Europe, which sees games on the console outsell those on Xbox 360 2:1.

In France alone, the PS3 topped the sales charts with 822,000 consoles sold in 2010, against 550,000 Xbox 360, according to figures from the independent Gfk. Interestingly this brings the total of PS3′s to 3 million in French homes, against 2.2 million Xbox 360 consoles.

It seems that Kinect did give Microsoft’s console a sales boost in the region, with 300,00 units being shifted, 50% of which were part of a bundle (new customers).

“We sold roughly 50% of cameras and 50% of bundles in France and this is very positive,” said Xbox France man David Dufour.

However despite the good performance of Kinect, it seems Sony’s Richard Brunois thinks Xbox 360 will never catch up, “it’s over for this generation of Xbox, they can never catch up to 800,000 consoles, a year sales of PS3.”

Quite surprisingly it’s when it comes to game sales in all of Europe combined that the PS3 really shines, having shifted 8 million units compared to the Xbox 360′s 4.7 million, that’s quite a difference.

“Of all the ‘big’ multiplatform games, the PS3 is preferred to the Xbox 360. For one game, our sales are 1.5 to 2 times larger than the competition,” said Richard Brunois of Sony. “In addition,  PS3 players bought an average of 2.8 games in 2010, against the 2 of Xbox 360 players.”

The Wii still remains the consoles to beat everywhere it seems, but when it comes to Xbox 360 and PS3, Sony’s black beast is taking Europe by storm.
