Having Sony tell us they probably SHIPPED(no way to know otherwise) 800K in France is news?  The bigger laugher is that they are probably using shipped for their 800k and sold for the "half number of the 360.  Sony is well known for their spinning of the sales numbers to hide a failure or to make a success seem bigger than it is.

for single country Sony can know the numbers just like Sony knows their Sold to Customer in America through NPD. i think France is also covered by GfK .?? isnt it? so i m sure Sony getting the numbers by being the premium subscriber..

That's exactly my point.  Sony knows the number is shipped, that's probably why they didn't say.  Just like they say the 360 is half, half of which number of which number?  They can be 100% accurate in the numbers, but still compare totally different numbers to make their point...  Microsoft does this too, but they seem to be more upfront about it...

How are they more "upfront" about it?  I don't know when Sony has tried hiding that they are using shipped numbers, and I've actually heard several times now it is GFK sold numbers in this case.

You could be right  as far as these being sold #'s, but with Sony usually quoting shipped its hard to know one way or another.  As far as the past goes, my memory is that they make a statement like this one that is vague on the specifics, but makes the point that the general media will report for them.  And then later when their official quarterly or year end numbers come out, we find out that they(Sony) didn't actually lie, they just represented the #'s from their point of view.  Microsoft at least clears the air via twitter or whatever fairly quickly, not 1-2 months later....
