It's interesting to note that Sheriff Dupnik was actually one of the first to start pushing "the Tea Party did it" meme, and it's also interesting that he acknowledged that Loughner has a history of making death threats. I hope the media can shut the fuck up about Sarah Palin long enough to see if the sheriff's department dropped the ball on Loughner, either out of sheer incompetence or perhaps because they looked the other way as a favor to Loughner's mother (who works for Pima County Park and Recreation services) and father (who works for the local Child Protective Service). If it's the latter, it would certainly explain why the sheriff was trying to deflect and politicize the issue, aside from his being a rabid partisan.
