I know you will disagree, but I think the most impressive number there is actually the PS3 number despite being "only" 12% up. Being UP YoY after everything it had last year, and what it's got against this year... Is astonishing IMO. Not to downplay the 360's increase. No way. It's huge and well deserved, but I personally find the PS3 increase a bigger surprise. Will be interesting to see if both will continue to be up YoY throughout the rest of 2011. I know PS3 has a crowded line up of games during the first few Months of 2011, and with the early 2010 shortages it could possibly put a pretty decent lead n last years figures. I also wouldn't be surprised if the 360, or Kinect itself got an early pricecut within the first half of the year. Not had a Pricecut since 2011, and cutting early would probably avoid any major battles in the 2nd half with both Nintendo AND Sony both cutting prices. Maybe a Kinect cut in the 1st half (May/June), and an official 360 cut in the 2nd half (September)? |
These drops give me the impression that despite the holidays, PS3 might be winning in worldwide HW sales for a major part of this year, or at least early on in it. EMEAA & Japan are the Golden Geese so to speak..
