Probably also because retail partners were OK with MS contacting them to get idea of sales for a short period, but dont want to do that every month.  Also during the launch period it was easy to see that they sold out as soon as they arrived in stores so it was easy to estimate sold-through now into the new year with inventory at stores will be harder unless you pester your partners. Might as well wait for monthly NPD reports.
