It may be because we're not so sure that sales will remain consistently strong throughout the rest of it's life as they have in the holiday seasons.
Other then that, take a wild guess why people try to liken Kinect to an Eyetoy, or say that core games couldn't possibly work on it. I'll give you a hint, it begins with not owning it.
