The joke is that people can't come to terms with what the Wii is about. Most fanboys will argue you to death that graphics don't matter but then they'll tell you the Wii is more powerful that it is. I'm not sure why those people care about graphics. Compare any Wii game to what has come out lately on the other systems and you should quickly realize the Wii isn't about graphics. And Nintendo seems to think that isn't a bad thing. |
Many/Most of the Wii fans would agree that the original post has unrealistic expectations on what the Wii will be able to achieve ... A lot of Wii fans (myself included) are saying something entirely different.
For the most part third party developers never focused on the Gamecube, and most of the third party games released on the Gamecube were crappy ports of PS2 games that never approached the capabilities of the Gamecube; the Wii (to date) has received the same crappy ports of PS2 games which have not approached the capabilities of the Gamecube let alone the Wii.
When we have looked at the graphical improvements that the Wii can provide in games like Super Smash Bros (as I posted earlier) there are dramatic improvements in texture detail, a reduction in polygonalization artifacts, and a very noticeable improvement in texture and particle effects; when you start considering what these improvements would be like on the best looking Gamecube games (Resident Evil 4, Legend of Zeda: Twilight Princess, Rogue Squadren 3) the Wii should be able to produce games that look better than (pretty much) everything we have seen so far.
Saying that graphics are not the primary motivating factor to buying a system, that a dramatic improvement in control is more important than an evolutionary improvement in graphics, or that the focus on graphics above all else is damaging the industry is not inconsistent with also saying that developers have not been doing a good job at taking advantage of the power of the Wii.
