There is another way to look at it though ...
In most creative mediums, you can focus on certain elements of a work an objectively evaluate a work in a very particular way; but this is not the only way to evaluate a creative work (or anything for that matter). At times it makes more sense to evaluate a work based on the audience it is targeting and based on what it was intended to be.
When you start to look at quality in a less ridgid way, it becomes clear that (while these products may not have much merit when judged from an artistic perspective) these very popular products are high quality in their own way. This doesn't mean that Twilight is one of the best books of all time, but it is (probably) one of the best teenage harlequin romance novels ever written.
