one thing i dont understand about the whole 360 vs ps3 thing

You aren't talking about the ps3 are you?  Because it is compatible with 7.1 audio buddy.

not when you watch 3D movies, the PS3 was never designed with HDMI 1.4 in mind, it still works off the 1.3 design, so there is a bandwidth limitation and it doesn't have enough to output 3D blu ray and 7.1 high quality audio at the same time, so it does it in 5.1, which is OK since I have a 5.1 system anyways. Don't buy a 1.4 cable if you already have 1.3, you don't have to, the hardware was never designed for 1.4 and 3D works just fine on my TV with 1.3.
