A good example of why homebrew is great for the end user.
I own a Samsung Captivate Android phone. The damn thing is still stuck on 2.1 because Samsung is absolutely incompetent and while HTC and other have jumped to 2.2 Froyo and in some cases 2.3 Gingerbread, Samsung released a halfassed 2.2 to the Canadian users and it bricked tons of phones and now they pulled the update and once again it is delayed.
The 2.1 Eclair ROM runs like shit, it is more of a beta to 100% honest. It is laggy as all hell and after a while it results in temporary lockups that last ~30 seconds at times.
Yeah, it sucks that bad. This is true regardless of whether it is a Captivate, Epic, Vibrant or Fascinate.
Then guess what happens? That is right, here comes the HORRIBLE homebrew community. Yeah you can now sideload apps and not pay for them. I own my pay for apps, which only accounts for Game Dev Story and PSX4Droid V1 & 2.
However, they have giving me the Cognition ROM, which runs so much better than the shitty stock 2.1 ROM, not to mention I now have all the 2.2 features including Flash support.
So should I shun those people and support Samsung who doesn't give a fuck?
Honestly, try to sit here and tell me that I should.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
