5 more million to go for new info from reggie :D

Ha, exactly what I was going to post. I guess the Wii2 will be unveiled in E3 (actually how long did it take for 5 million to be sold thos year starting with the new year?)

Well... at this point I'd definitely say Reggie knows something we don't... not sure if another 5 mil by July is guaranteed, but maybe, just maybe, Nintendo is trying to pull another 3DS with the Wii2. i.e. announce at E3 (or maybe even have a secret special event for it around September) and release during Q1 or Q2 of 2012 so that by holiday 2012 there will already be some decent games from 3rd parties as well... that would definitely be interesting... NO WAY would MS or Sony be prepared for another launch before holiday 2012, especially not Sony if they plan to launch psp2 this year...

It also might mean a dual-console Zelda again, though personally that would piss me off a bit that N's most successful console may not get an exclusive Zelda...

Pure speculation of course, except for the part where Reggie knows SOMETHING...

the release of the next console might not be as quick as we would like

timeline of the Wii:

Nintendo first spoke of the console at the 2004 E3 and later unveiled the system at the 2005 E3, and then released it in November 2006.

I would also appreciate having more time and major releases before Nintendo move on to their next machine. It was rightfully said here that Reggie meant US sales of 45 mil. and not America sales, so that alone should mean a life extension of 6 months or so.

Regarding the manner in which the next console will be revealed to the public, I think it will be much more secretive and quick to launch than the Wii, and more like the 3DS. The reasons I believe this are that Nintendo were in a very different position last gen with home consoles, and decided it was necessary to iterate their strategy to the industry in a manner that was more open, in order to make a point about their new direction and possible new directions for the industry.

I think they were doing this in order to gain trust, but by exposing themselves in such a manner they also left themselves quite vulnerable in a few key areas and I find it hard to believe they will be so open about their point of view next generation.

I still find the whole Nintendo vs. Apple thing to be extremely ironic considering Iwata was openly praising Apple's strategy in the years leading to the Wii's launch... and Apple was obviously listening because I think a few general ideas were taken from the Wii when designing the iphone which is by now a major competitor... (that whole PR move by Iwata might be considered a mistake by Nintendo in retrospect, even though I love him all the more for going through with it).

The market is much more competitive than it was in 2005 and Nintendo are going to have to up their game if they still intend to appeal to the general audience (AKA the casuals).

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!
