The way Nintendo positioned the DS this holiday leads me to believe that they plan on easing it out of existence rather than pulling the plug abruptly. No system before it sold as well as the DS did, and as a result it'll be home to many low budget titles, multiplatform titles, indie titles, and licensed titles for years to come.

I don't anticipate it getting major first party releases after Pokemon Black and White, but we may see a few here and there.

I think DS Lite will be discontinued in 2011 and the DSi and DSi XL will receive further price drops, fading away by 2013. 3DS will likely be 250 dollars, which is not quite the mass market price for handhelds. Sure, I expect the 3DS to sell like crazy. But I think the DS will do better with low-income families just as the PS2 has done with the PS3.
