The fanbase will go where the games go. The western fanbase is insignificant, and the Japanese fanbase will follow the game, much like they followed Dragon Quest off of a dual-analogue console onto a no-analogue device with the power of the N64. Capcom's got the Japanese market locked as far as what they choose to do with that franchise, and as far as growing the franchise in the west is considered, Nintendo is the better option atm, as proven with MH3's performance and Nintendo's commitment to that performance Sony would have to make a compelling counterbid to keep the franchise on the PSP2. The 3DS is already sapping the kind of games that have made the PSP so strong in Japan, and if Monster Hunter goes, well that's the end of it With Megaman Legends, they're just risk-minimizing, though i suppose the bare minimum would be to post it as a XBLA/PSN, but again Capcom's going for something more viable in Japan, while still safe |
XBLA/PSN would be great. MML3 with dual analog would be incredible.
As for MHP fanbase going where the game goes, yeah you're probably right, but I still stand what I said about 3DS not really bringing much new to the series than a 3D effect.
Unless of course they think players would want to tap the screen to attack rather than tap the A button. Dual analog however would be a very welcome addition, plus if touchscreen it important to them the PSP2 has one of those as well, but it is placed on the backside of the handheld. Not sure if it has it on the front as well.
Maybe we will find out at E3.
