Well honestly the usual reason related to that which people cite for not having ads is that the ad-makers can pressure the site directly or indirectly (for instance, even if they never say anything the writers may fear losing business). 

But that is a total non-issue for Wikipedia with its hordes of people (who do not depend on or indeed receive any money from those ads) doing all the editing.
