There's no sense in provoking an armed individual. If this is the sort of person who would kill you dead after you've already surrendered then odds are they probably won't lose any sleep over delusions of self defense. However, if the individual is such a person who would accept compliance and an honourable surrender, attacking said person might force them to reconsider using the weapon in hand. The reason why it is recommended to offer no resistance is because that course of action has been statistically shown to dramatically reduce the chances of things getting worse. It sucks, but that's how it is.
