DLC still gives the publisher money.
Someone can buy a EA game and purchase the online license. They could also buy Mass Effect two real cheap but end up paying for $15 for the cerebus network. Many other games also have DLC.
Either way I always try to buy my games new unless they become rare/Out of Print which is the developers fault for not circulating enough platnium hits copies/re-releasing it via XBox 360 digital copies.
It's just that simple.
