Looking at the installbase difference, MH became IMO the biggest IP in Japan. I dont think that even Pokemon can push that many systems anymore. Lets be honest, MH is the reason the PSP is the best selling system in Japan for some time now. its true, there are other pretty solid game on it there, but they all came because of MH. If Sony gets tehir act together, this success could easily translate into good PSP2 numbers in the land of the rising sun

It's still not bigger than Super Mario Bros, Wii Fit, Mario Kart or Wii Sports going by install bases (which all have done proportionately better on Wii than Monster Hunter has on PSP).  Ratio arguments tend to favor smaller userbases, this works in PSP's favor vs DS, but in Wii's favor vs PSP.  I'd say MH may have eclipsed DQ as the biggest 3rd party series now though.  It's not past Mario or Pokemon though, so it can't take the crown overall yet.  There's also stuff like Brain-Age and Animal Crossing that sold higher in the past, though we'll have to see how they'll hold up on 3DS.

And PSP2's success in Japan likely rests on MH.  I'm sure both Sony and Nintendo are doing everything in their power to land the series on their systems.

You're probably right, but if 3DS has a RE, a KH, a MGS, a Mario and some other big IPs in its first fiscal year, I don't think it would be easy for Sony to sell systems, even with a MH, and bad sales would mean less chance for future MHs...

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)
