Can exclusivity help a game's sales?

yes, lets use dragon quest IX as an example.  If it had been released on the PSP as well as the DS, I don't think Nintendo would have fully backed it using marketing and therefore Western sales wouldn't be as high.  There would also be the cost of porting the game to the PSP.
