It's not just a shame from a storytelling standpoint, but also from a game world standpoint. Other M, as well as Fusion, took place on a space station instead of an actual planet like all other games. |
Oh I definitely agree with that, I feel the growth of the Metroid world is really suffering from this issue, and will continue to suffer if the old values aren't left behind. Like I said before, they've got a grand universe and an amazing protagonist to work with, they could do so much, they have before. However, these traditional values that have been forced into this game will really hurt Metroid, from a storytelling and gameplay standpoint. It is frustrating as a Metroid fan to say the least, I mean the game isn't set in Japan, or on the planet Earth for that matter, these values should be long gone, yet here they remain, insisted upon on the franchise by Sakamoto. At first glance the franchise seems free as a dove, but in actuality it is trapped like a caged parrot, or should I say like a japanese wife of the old days.
