I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'll defend Sakamoto from these accusations that he's using Samus as revenge against the Prime series. I just chalk it up to really bad writing. The slapdash nature of scenes without explanation, and loose threads all over the place, make it seem more like this.
Like shooting Samus that way seems more like a bad writer trying to make a heroic mentor sacrifice scene, but not knowing how it actually works.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
