Not everyone abuses alcohol and it does have great benefits. It's very good for a small buzz but also as a means for lessening you inhibitions for social interactions. Networking sessions become far easier with a drink or two inside the system as you become far more open and find approaching people a lot easier. In social situations, lowered inhibitions just generally means greater fun.
Alcohol also thins the blood which can be beneficial for your heart. A small glass of red wine with your dinner every so often can actually be beneficial (obviously if you get very drunk the liver damage outweighs the benefits).
As for taste, wtf?! Do you know how many different alcoholic beverages are available and the sheer range of different flavours? I know you live in America where the beer is generally pretty poor, but there are so many wines, spirits, cocktails and even alco-pops that there is certainly something out there you'd actually enjoy drinking.
Also, it could be evolution based:

Im aware of that. Wines might be the exception because I've read of some of its benifits but I guess I should of emphasized those that OVER DRINK. Though beers on the otherhand just smell bad.
Don't get mad at me geesh. I doubt it has to do with our monkey side. ^_^

The monkeys are cute though huh?

Indeed. But I changed my mind I think it does have to do with our monkey side now that I remember how really drunk people act. It's comparable to those cute crazy monkeys.

Also, don't forget that fermentation and the brewing of alcohol (more precisely ethanol) has been with us for thousands of years. I believe the first records of brewery are from Anchient Egypt but virtually every culture has brewed alcohol at some point. It's ingrained into nearly every culture in the world (with the exception of the muslim world, but this was well after alcohol had been introduced in those particular countries).
