Is Kinect a success?  Yes

Will Sony and Nintendo fanboys admit it? No

/Thread

I fully admit the Kinect is a massive success right now. But it's too small a sample size. We are in the holiday season, during its launch, which makes it easier to sell a product. The key will be the longevity, which I believe will not really last beyond this holiday season. Even the 32x was sold out during its first holiday season.

If you look at the games, they are already not really selling. So eventually, one of two things will happen. Either Kinect will start to get some killer aps (there are certainly none announced yet) and will keep selling hardware, or third parties will keep making games like the ones now, and Kinect sales will fall off a cliff as a result.

Its worked for Wii for 4 years so why shouldn't it work for Kinect? And before you start naming good Wii exclusives, think after a bit, then start naming the ones that did good; oh yeah a total of 2 games, while Wii fit still outsells them combined and it has a sequel. Casual market don't need good games period.

Bias much? Wii has far more than 2 good games that did well. And your comment's made even more pathetic since you seem to claim that Wii Fit isn't one. Wii Fit, Wii Play, MKWii, NSMBWii... You may or may not like them, but they are good games. The casual market does need good games, rather obviously.

And Kinect Sports and Dance central aren't better/ as good as said titles???

I would not know since I haven't played them, but that's besides the point. I was just clarifying that "casual" games that you dislike aren't necessarily bad.

The post that you quoted claimed that Kinect sales may not hold up well due to lack of quality titles and, in this case, that means killer apps. Killer apps, if they are to hold up sales well, have to sell a lot in themselves. If they don't, it's quite unlikely that they'll move their hardware. So far, whilst they seem to be doing well, Kinect Sports, Dance Central, Kinectimals, etc. don't seem to be selling quite well enough to piggy back the rest of Kinect through spring/summer.
