I recently got into minecraft, decided to check out the server you guys have. I spawned near all you guys, silver tiger's tree farm, joe's obsidian fortress, etc. You guys have a nice setup, but I must say the cache someone kindly set up for beginners should have some coal. Or hell, just cut out the middle man and put torches in there. You guys have probably pretty much mined out the area and I died three or four times just trying to get to an area I could get my own resources from. If I'd had torches I could easily have dug out little bunkers and just waited out the night.
I managed to find a small abandoned mine with eight coal or so left, took about 5 and I was good to go. Right now I'm set up in a small but tall mountain with a waterfall near the top as a starter base. It's somewhere in the vicinity of a day's journey from Joe's palace.
Do you need to be near someone for chat to work? I said hello but no response. At least the monsters are talking to me...
