What company won't milk the most out of a truely successful franchise? Name one company that has produced a game on the popularity level of Mario and Zelda that hasn't come back with as many sequels as possible. Wait, I've got a better idea. Lets go take a look atthe top 50 sales charts ourselves. reading down the list Mario, Pokemon, Tetris, Duck Hunt, Wii, Nintendogs, Sims(PC), GTA, Gran Turismo, Brain Training, Mario Kart, Final Fantasy, Donkey Kong, World of Warcraft(PC), Animal Crossing, Halo, Goldeneye, Halflife(PC), Myst(PC), Zelda, Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, Smash Bros. Not a single one of these franchises hasn't had either multiple iterations, multiple versions, or multiple expansions made for it. So within that list, we've got 4 majorly successful franchises on the PC, 5 under Sony, 1 under Microsoft and 13 under Nintendo, the top 10 successful games of all time are completely comprised of 6 of Nintendo's franchises, so nearly half of Nintendo's franchises are the most succesful of ALL TIME. Sorry, but the only reason that other companies abandon existing IPs to work on new ones is that they know that those IPs aren't successful enough to warrant it. |
Everybody needs a steady pay check.
As long as the sequels aren't made lazily or sloppily just to make some quick cash.
