Monster Hunter Tri is sorta hard to categorize. Not really an RPG (or at least it certainly couldn't compete with something like New Vegas, Mass Effect 3, FF13, or even Dragon Quest IX in terms of elements that are widely regarded to be RPG-y), and it's not an MMO (and even if it were classed as an MMO, console MMOs never get big accolades), and it's going to be handily beat by a few more high-profile games within the Wii category
For "PSO Clone" or "Diablo-esque," Monster Hunter Tri is the superior game this year, but those aren't widely developed categories.
Now for "most infuriatingly broken boss/enemy in a game," Monster Hunter Tri does stand out, or rather Rathalos does

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
