For a comparison, only 4 franchises made 5 million last generation. Grand Theft Auto, Pokemon, Madden NFL and Halo.
I wonder how the list will look by the end of the generation.
First place is obvious.
1. Wii Sports - Loads.
Second place is less obvious, but I'm fairly certain it will be New Super Mario Bros. Wii. What can challenge it? In its 55th week, it was only outdone by Black Ops, and that only by 100k, and Kinect Adventures, by 8k. This game is selling craploads, it's going to reach 10 million in half the time Mario Kart Wii did. 15 million is a shoe-in, and I wouldn't put 20 million past this title.
2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii - 18-22 million
Third spot is a tad trickier, but I'd say that most likely goes to Wii Sports Resort. 15 million is pretty much obvious for this one too, and I'd say a 17-20 million range seems likely.
3. Wii Sports Resort - 17-20 million
Fourth spot should finally go to a non-Nintendo game. Black Ops is doing insanely well, and it's tracking over 1 million better than Modern Warfare 2, as well as selling 100k more in its 4th week. I wouldn't put 15 million past this one either, but it's not going to get much further than that. Around 15 million, I'd say.
4. Black Ops - 15 million.
Oh, Wii Play. That should do around 15 million as well. Tie for that with Black Ops, then.
4. Wii Play.
I'm not sure how much Mario Kart Wii can do. It definitely has a few million left kicking in it, and it all depends on how Nintendo deals with Player's Choice. 14-15 million?
6. Mario Kart Wii - 14-15 million.
Then the 7th spot probably belongs to yet another Call of Duty game; Modern Warfare 2. 13 million ish.
7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - 13 million.
Then for 8th spot, I'm not too sure. Mario Kart DS is blasting away right now, and has good chances of making 10 million. Mario Kart 3DS should knock its legs down pretty badly, though. So we have MKDS at ~ 10 million, together with Nintendogs. Then we have Wii Fit Plus, but that's down to Mario Kart Wii levels already. It seems to be fading quicker as well, so 10-11 million-ish for that. New Super Mario Bros. DS is quite low right now, selling just a fourth of Mario Kart DS this week, but it should last a long while. Around 11 million for that, I guess.
8. New Super Mario Bros. DS - 11 million
9 . Wii Fit Plus - 10-11 million
10. Mario Kart DS - 10 million
10. Nintendogs - 10 million
Of the released games, nothing else is going to reach 10 million, or probably even 9 million. I can't quite see what could be released that could make it either, apart from possibly another Call of Duty.
