Man I really enjoyed that, I really agree with him on everything, and the issue with Geoff is the same thing wrong with most of gaming publications/journalists and has been a problem for a while.
You question their credibility, you care about wanting things to be better, and they want to avoid it. Become vocal to some IGN editors and they'll just shrug you off, you say how Game Informers review standards are bad (a letter they posted in the magazine) and they essentially troll and call you stupid, and it's really the industry as a whole liking how things are going, publishers give them money for ads at the price of the publications integrity, even giving half a thought to upping standards is sending a message to publishers that it's threating the relationship they have, which is you hype a game, review it reasonably well and you get good money.
Upping standards and being vocal about it for any big publication is threating the fragile balance the industry has right now. Like Angry Joe talked about they're purposely marketing to the lowest common denominator, the industry as a whole is doing this, the people that made gaming their hobby, apart of their lives, the guys that love the thrill of a new game, they obviously see these things happening, they're vocal but they're a minority compared to the lowest common denominator and always have been, so as long as this marketing is working (for the most part it's actually crumbling) on that group there's little hope for standards to increase across the board.
