Reasons I can think, assuming this even turn out to be true for why they would bring a Wii version over instead:

1. ToGF is just ToG Wii upscaled. When it comes to graphics, the game still looks like a Wii game and would be better marketed as a good looking Wii game, rather than a not so good looking HD game. I doubt it'd be that hard to downscale the textures a bit anyway to how the Wii version looked. Space isn't a reason this time. Edit: And they'd only have to downscale the new content.

2. Possible Nintendo involvement? Since ToG Wii had a bundle and also an Iwata Asks, and could be a good game to fill up the gap in 2010. SW3 also had a bundle and Nintendo is bringing that over, although in this case Namco would bring it. But of course it could be a similar case with MS and ToV.

Personally I would think the most plausible reason why it would only be the Wii version, would be if it wasn't Namco Bandai actually doing the localizing it.  Doesn't seem to be a part of this rumor here, but if it was a company like Xseed actually doing the localizing, they would feel most comfortable doing the Wii version as they have done Wii games before.  So that's what I kinda get out of this.

But there is a possibility of Nintendo involvement.  Given Xenoblade and Last Story will most likely come out in the west next year as well, they may just make it a nice trifecta for release.

But who knows the complete things behind this if it does turn out to be true.  Could all just be discussing something that is nothing.  I hope not though haha.
