What Nintendo didn't do with Wii (and DS really) that they should have is exacty what they're now doing with 3DS (and likely Wii 2); court major 3rd party support, and early on to build a sustainable marketplace for them.
Nintendo might be slow to act sometimes, but they always seem to lean from their mistakes.
