| manuel said: Yes, I am right when we only speak of this generation, and that's what the OP is about. I understand in the long run there might be a difference, but this is a different topic. As for Sony with PS1 and PS2, I think they did everything right with those 2 consoles, that's why they are such a big success. In this generation, Nintendo just did (probably almost) everything right. They sell loads of their consoles at profit. What could they have done better? I can't think of anything. And I really hope nobody says it would have sold better with HD graphics, because it most certainly wouldn't have. It would probably have sold less because of a higher price. Let's face it, in the end, the majority of people buys when the price is right. The hardcore fans buying at ANY price are negligible in the end. |
All of us talking here are negligible because if you have such a love for video games that you register on a website and go into their forums, then you are hardcore. We are not the legions of casuals who Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony want to sell to in order to expand upon their market share.
I only contended with you because of the short-sighted perspective many people, including myself, have held when it comes to one generation compared to the past. If Sony is on top next generation, we will see them crowing about the PS4 as if the PS3 never happened. Right now, Nintendo users crow about the Wii as if the Gamecube and N64 never happened. I have a guttural, instinctual aversion to this shortsightedness.
I apologize if I came off too strong. I don't mean any harm and I scare myself more than anything because I do care how I treat others because I expect to be treated the same way. You are the bigger person here because you have relented in slamming me.
As for Wii HD, I think it would have been negligible at best. What sells the Wii is the software which caters to Nintendo's core and the Blue Ocean. Sony and Microsoft are just finding the Blue Ocean after spending the greater part of this generation engulfed in a Red Ocean over the "hardcore" gamer, whatever that means.
