Well, strange how you put only "HD" games there...why is the separation? Why not putting Wii games there too? There is absolutely no logical point in making a division between "SD games sales" and "HD games sales". |
Mostly because Mario Kart Wii is in another world, it's kicked every GT game in history's ass for LTD sales. It's kicked every other racing game in history's LTD ass. The combined sales of all (67) other Wii racers is 7 million less than MK Wii. It's Americas opening week is 500K better than GT4's, the only non-PS3 GT game for which we have America's week 1 data. So kicking GT5's ass in Americas week 1 is hardly going to be a surprise, or much of a benchmark by which to measure whether GT5 week 1 sales are objectively good, bad or in-between.
Personally I say GT5 in Americas did merely OK. What I took issue with was the OMG major fail attitude of certain people.
But lets look at the other Wii racers:
2nd highest racer on Wii - Monster 4x4 World circuit, opening week in Americas 10K, World wide don't know there's no EMEAA weekly numbers for it.
3rd highest racer on Wii - GT Pro Series, 11K opening, LTD in Americas only 15K more than GT5 opening week.
So if you take Mario Kart Wii out as a freakishly amazing phenomenon against which no other racer in history compares favourably then Wii's got nothing worth mentioning, in this discussion. But it's a fair point, there was no reason to exclude SD racers as a matter of course.
