As for it being "doomed," I believe the market has changed from when the DS and PSP were first released. Back then, the iPhone was just coming out and becoming popular. During that time, the mid-2000s, gaming on cell phones was in it's infancy and not as prevalent as it is nowadays. Thusforth, the DS/PSP generation of handhelds benefitted from not having that asymmetrical competition the 3DS and PSP2 will have to contend with. This is why I said "dead on arrival," which I define as a hand-held selling so low in comparison to it's predecessor the parent company continues to support it, but everyone knows it will be the last handheld the parent company ever makes. I have been wrong before and I could be wrong again. However, I am not gunning for Sony this time around as it is uncool to be bashing on a company whose console I will most likely own next generation. What I really want is for the iOS and other smart phone gaming apps to put the hurt on Nintendo so much because I just love to hate Nintendo due to their backwardness concerning online capabilities, kiddie games, users who will buy a turd from Miyamoto wrapped up with the Super Mario Bros. logo, and on. |
Well, about the price, Sony could surprise us all. But we can't really make good guesses before we have an official reveal anyway.
And well, the market has changed, that's true. But I can't really imagine how big the impact on the 3DS and the PSP2 will be. Could be very small, or very big, so we might not see handhelds again after the next handheld gen. But anyway, nothing is really for sure here, it's a wait and see situation.
