Failure? Which game are you talking about?

I see now... 2 post trolling GT5... GT5 = GOTY 2010 *IMO*

do you really think that is a good result to sell sub 500k in america during black friday?

gt5 is selling in line with expectations just in emea, doing more or less the same numbers gt4 did in 2006 with a March release

let's examine that with some data shall we?

Highest selling racer on HD consoles in Americas to date: Forza Motorsport 2 with 2.53 million sales. Americas launch 208K, WW launch 337K. GT5 Americas launch> than FM2 WW launch. Significant install base difference in favour of GT5 (9.9 million 360's WW, vs today's 16 million PS3s in Americas) means not a very good comparison.

OK lets look at next best selling HD racing game in Americas to date: Forza Motorsport 3. Ooo now we have an install base that favours FM3 both in Americas and Worldwide. Surely FM3 will kick ass in relation to GT5 Americas sales. Let's check: FM3 Americas week 1 = Huh? 224K. Wait, that's less than half GT5's Week 1 Americas sales and 360 has 18 million install base at that time. That makes 470K even for Black Friday look pretty OK. But I betcha FM3 sold way more world wide than GT5 in Americas...Ooooo I'm all excited, I can't wait to check...are you ready? Here goes! FM3 Week 1 worldwide = erm 470K. WHaaaat!?! GT5 week 1 Americas just outsells FM3 world wide week 1, and 360 has a WW install base of 32 million at that time. How is this possible? Gosh. Black Friday sales of 470K for a 16 million console base doesn't sound all that bad all of a sudden.

But hang on a minute! let's not compare a racing game on a console that really doesn't go in for racers all that much. I know lets go for the next highest selling game...ummmm...here it is Motorstorm? Nah let's not that was a PS3 launch title, it's week 1 is bound to be crappy.

Right next! hmmmm... Wow Pure on 360. OK a multiplat, first one, lets do combined PS360 sales then...ahhh maybe not. 56K WW week 1 launch says there's nothing to see here. ONly reason it sold so well is because of heavy bundling about a year after launch. Bugger, gotta keep on looking and I really need to take a dump.

OOOOOKay so next up is Oh! GT5 Prologue. Here we go, this is about as apples with apples as you can get. PS3 WW install base was 5 million less than America's is today. This is interesting. Naturally the Americas week 1 is pathetic at 1.45 million. EMEAA week 1 is a big 'ol 400K though. So WW week 1 for GT5P is 650K on a considerably smaller install base. Yeah, gotta admit that in comparison to it's embryonic self GT5 Americas Week 1 being on Black Friday looks a bit weak.

Ok, so, so far the performance of another GT game with a smaller install base (though a much more enthusiastic user base because EMEAA is included), is the only game that's making GT5's Black Friday performance look a bit on the low side. But only a bit on the low side, not FAILEDZ!!! worthy as you claim.

OK one more then I'm done, I'm starting to turtle-neck here. All right! some real competition, a well loved franchise with a long and illustrious pedigree: Need for Speed ProStreet. Far out! 104K Americas, 192K Worldwide. But wait, that's only on 360. PS3 will do for it: 47K Americas, 182K worldwide (Shiiiit it almost outsold the 360 version WW back when PS3 was the loser console and wasn't gonna sell more than 10 million consoles LTD... ahhh good times). OK combined sales of err...carry the one...374K. Well it was a while ago, so what sort of install base are we talking about? 19 million combined PS360 pretty much comparable install base there. It's a valid comparison.

Right, so there we go. Ain't no game this HD generation that can touch GT5 Week 1 sales in Americas, whether you look at Americas numbers or worldwide numbers. Except for GT5P. I don't see that it's possible to call GT5's Black Friday sales a fail and not come off looking a little bit desperate to make GT5 look bad. Heck even GT4 on PS2 only sold 300K more and that was with a PS2 LTD in Americas of 32 Million.

All up I'd say when you look at the racing genre in general GT5 selling 470K week 1 on black Friday in Americas looks like a reasonably credible number. Only put to any sort of minor shame buy it's own predecessors. So by its own standards it's under-performed. But by the standard of other HD racers it's done very well. Yeah, fail LOL.

By the way, well done GT5 in Finland.

you are kind of awesome.
