Yaaaay finally finished my first run through Demon's Souls. Used a thief with a mid-level magic buff. Ranged attacks FTW!
So just starting NG with him, mostly to get the all magic spells trophy. Have also started one new game as a Soldier, and one with a Wanderer.
But I have to admit to cheating in order to get past the blue dragon. Try as I might I couldn't run past its shooting flames, and that's wioth a thief with high stamina and light on his feet. So standing on the steps quitting the game and re-loading re-sets the dragon down to the lower level, and while its busy flying up to guard the castle entrance I'm running up the stairs. Voila! safe from the flame attacks and shooting the bugger in the head until it's dead.
So, how are you meant to get past the blue dragon without cheating?

Since you're a thief, you probably have high-ish agility. If you're at 30 Agility or are approaching it, you can build yourself a Sticky Compound Longbow 5, which has the best agility damage boost (S). Couple it with a good White Arrows quiver(50 ), a Clever Rat Ring and a Morion's Blade on the off hand, you'll be doing 225% damage if your HP is below 30%.
At 30 Agility, that means you'll be doing at least over 80 damage per arrow to the Blue Dragon if you hit him on the nearest side of his frame, if you're standing at the entry way just after the stairs were you killed the Red Eyes. Or if you manage to get to the castle entrance and shoot from below, you'll deal a good 110 plus damage if you connect with his head.

i think he is talking about getting past the dragon's fire blast once he flies off to his second perch. I don't think he was actually having trouble damaging it, but your advice on how to damage it is very good. With that set-up, it is amazing how fast the dragon's health depletes.

Ah yes, I misread his original post xD. I had a bit of trouble too, finding the actual timing to run between his flames when he's on the second perch. In that case your advice was spot on.
I also found that wearing two rings of fire resistance and casting Water Veil before running up the stairs can mean the difference between dying and still be left with some HP. Of course, at New Game plus, that only becomes a reality if your character has a lot of HP, at least over 1000, and even then you'd have to hit the 400 fire resistance mark to make it.

So it's just a matter of brute force and bloody mindedness to get past it's flames. Flame protection buff and fire resistance rings, then run like buggery and hope you only get hit once. My thrief didn't have high enough vitality to do it in soul form. I was about to try it in body form when I discovered the "glitch".
In NG can you kill it in 1-1 when its lying there waving its tail to and fro? That way you won't have to meet it in 1-4.

The only time I tried, I did it without the Attack boost of the Clever Rat Ring and Morion Blade. After about 100 or so normal arrows, he just flew away in 1-1. Same thing for the Red Dragon as well.
Also, in NG, both dragons get a 100% HP boost, meaning that Blue Dragon's HP goes all the way to 12K, so you'll need to pack tons of arrows (Heavy Arrows are also good if you don't have enough White Arrows) to kill it, even with the Attack boost method.
