Don't get me wrong. What made this game fun for me was sitting down with my brothers and nephews on one television and one GC/Wii, going at it and enjoying every second of it. I'm not going to sit on my 3DS and expect the same experience by myself, nor do I expect every one I know who loves SSB to rush out the doors and buy a 3DS to own this game.
SSB is meant for a console. Will it sell, yes. Will it have that same magical touch? I doubt it.
As Soleron said, this is about local multiplayer.
