Halo was one of the first if not the first Sci fi shooters to hit it big time like it did(Mahusive sales, popularity etc), one can even go as far as to say that it's the daddy of all sci fi shooters, except for maybe the Doom who is just the king of gaming as a whole. So going by your statement, Killzone, Resistance are all borderline lame for similar plot of fighting the aliens? Sometimes you amaze, not in a good way.
